This photograph was taken following a flood that eroded the bluff adjacent to the man. The bluff in the background is about 20 m (65 ft) high. The top of the terrace on which this buried forest was originally growing is approximately at the level of the man's knees. This terrace surface had to have been at least 3 m (10 ft) above the river channel at the time the trees were growing.
