Glacial moraine along McGee Creek that has been offset about 15-17 ...

1978 (approx.)

Detailed Description

This site is about 5 km (3 mi) south the Long Valley Caldera. For scale, note cars in the parking lot at lower left. The Hilton Creek Fault is much larger than suggested by this relatively small offset--its scarp in places is about 1,100 m (3,600 f) tall and forms part of the eastern front of the Sierra Nevada. The displacement shown here has only occurred since the moraine was deposited about 12,000 years ago.
