GPS equipment allows scientists to measure coastal change post-Helene
Detailed Description
USGS Scientists Emily Johnson and Johnathan Woodruff prepare to take GPS measurements. Following a major storm, the beach is significantly changed. Arriving on-site as soon as is safe after the storm, allows scientists to fully document the changes to the beach and provide that information to emergency managers, planners and stakeholders to better respond to the storm damage (and prepare better for the next storm). You can see in the foreground a wall that has been completed destroyed.
