USGS researchers at the South Dakota Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (SD Unit), in partnership with South Dakota State University's (SDSU) Department of Natural Resource Management will begin a three-year collaborative study with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resource Management in which they will look to understand sturgeon's age, growth, maturity and movement within Big Stone Lake, a freshwater reservoir on the border between western Minnesota and northeastern South Dakota. The results of this study may provide valuable insight into managing sturgeon in Big Stone Lake.
