Detailed Description
This series of thermal images shows the southern portion of the active lava lake in Halema‘uma‘u crater, at the summit of Kīlauea. The lake remains active, but the area of active surface lava has diminished over the past two weeks. These thermal images show the southern end of the lake (left side of image) crusting over.
