January 28, 2025 — Kīlauea eruption monitoring shift

Detailed Description

USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory geologists observed episode 7 of the Kīlauea Halema‘uma‘u eruption on the morning of January 28, 2025. The eruption resumed in both the north and south vents with fissure fountains and outpouring of lava flows on the caldera floor. Geologists measured fountain heights at approximately 30 m (98 ft) for the south vent and 40-45 m (130-145 ft) for north vent at 7:40 a.m. HST. This photo is looking north. USGS photo by H.
