Joshua Tree National Park
Detailed Description
Weathering and erosion of granitic bedrock in the Little San Bernardino Mountains produces spheroidal-shaped boulders and a "grussy" soil (rusty red, sandy sediment rich in quartz and feldspar grains) that accumulates on alluvial fans. This view is looking west from Park Boulevard about 4 miles east of the West Entrance Station.
