July 2, 2026 — Tephra in west wall of Kaluapele, Kīlauea summit caldera
Detailed Description
Oblique view of the west wall of Kaluapele on July 2, 2026, during a sampling mission to study the tephra and lava flows exposed by the 2018 collapse. The dark lava flows on the left are from recent lava fountaining episodes of the current summit eruption, and the vent complex is visible in the background on the left. USGS photo by K. Lynn.
