Detailed Description

On Wednesday June 11, the twenty-fifth episode of the ongoing Kīlauea summit eruption occurred. twenty-fifth episode from Volcano House within HAWAII Volcanoes National Park. In this photo, captured around 1:45 p.m. from the Volcano House in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, lava fountains are reaching approximately 1,000 ft (305 m) in height, well above the western rim of Halemaʻumaʻu crater. The thick black plume lofting beyond the incandescent lava fountain likely contains a substantial amount of volcanic tephra, which is deposited downwind to the southwest. USGS photo by M. Zoeller.
