Lake Mead - Joshua tree

This Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) is located at the Meadview Overlook on Pierce Ferry Road (Arizona Highway 25) (USDA, [2010]). Pierce Valley Road extends for 45 miles northeast from Highway 93 across the Hualapai Valley before ascending to Grapevine Mesa where the park settlement of Meadview is located. Much of this route is within one of the largest Joshua tree forests in the Desert Southwest. Joshua trees are an indicator species of the Mojave Desert Ecosystem.
