Laura likely to strongly affect Central Gulf sandy beaches and islands

Detailed Description

This Coastal Change Storm Hazard Team forecast was made at 4 a.m. CDT Tuesday, August 25, 2020 and shows forecast beach erosion at the base of the dunes (the band of colored bars closest to the coast), overwash (middle band) and inundation (outer band) caused by Laura between Southeast Texas and Alabama. For red areas the likelihood of erosion is 90% or more; for white areas 10% or less. The forecast is for sandy beaches and barrier islands and does not include marshes, forested or sea walled shorelines. Breaks in the bars are areas without sandy shorelines.
