Detailed Description
Long Beach, California, Earthquake March 10, 1933. St. Mathews Catholic School, East 7th and Gladys Ave. View showing earthquake damage to Catholic School. Photo from Capt. T.J. Maher, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey.
Note: Email received September 20, 2024, from Greg Schilling, "This is possibly St. Anthony School (ground-level basement windows, 2-story, and roof-top playground) on Olive Ave. just south of 7th St. St. Matthew's School (no basement, two-story only) was on 7th St. near Temple Ave. I have a feeling that Capt. Maher, possibly being new to Long Beach as a visitor, may have confused these two Catholic elementary schools."
