Detailed Description

The USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center conducts basic and applied research to understand the processes that form and alter coastal and marine environments and the implications of how these processes relate to natural hazards, resource sustainability, and environmental change.

Scientists at SPCMSC study sandy beaches and barrier islands, salt marshes and estuaries, coral reefs, and the open ocean from the continental shelf to the deep sea. The center includes a diverse workforce that works collaboratively to conduct and share robust scientific research with the world.

This interactive geonarrative will take you on a guided tour to explore the science, capabilities, and history of the USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center.
