Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls near the west end of the Columbia River Gorge. This 620 foot cascade (total of upper and lower falls) is one of the highest constantly streaming waterfalls in North America (Yosemite Falls is the highest; USFS, 2007). The waterfall is fed by springs and runoff from Larch Mountain (to the south of the Columbia River Gorge). The rocks exposed at Multnomah Falls are part of the Grande Ronde Basalt Formation (Lower to Middle Miocene) of the greater Columbia River Basalt Group (Norman and Roloff, 2004; USGS, 2009).
