Painted Rock Unit area
Detailed Description
This view was taken along the County Road just south of the Painted Hills Unit of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. Morning light highlights elevated stream terraces carved by Bridge Creek, the main drainage in the area. Elevated stream terraces and incised alluvial fans reflect the high rate of surface erosion occurring in the semi-desert conditions of central Oregon, east of the Cascades and Oregon's Coast Ranges.
