Racetrack Playa

Water floods a ditch carved by the National Park Service along the western side of the Racetrack Playa to keep vehicles off the playa. Ephemeral puddles that form in the ditch support brine shrimp. Layers of steeply dipping Paleozoic sedimentary rocks stand out on the mountainsides south of playa.
