Red-backed salamander on forest floor among leaf litter

Detailed Description
The red-backed salamander has similar life history characteristics and overlaps with the Peaks of Otter salamander in some areas of their ranges. “Careful monitoring and managing low elevation areas and areas where the Peaks of Otter salamander is sympatric with the eastern redbacked salamander are critical for the long-term survival of this species,” said Norman Reichenbach, Liberty University professor.
