Scour on the Gasconade
Detailed Description
Here, you can see the effects of the Gasconade River’s flooding on a campground at Rich Fountain, Missouri. The floodwaters ate out the banks and scoured the surface, damaging concrete, steel, and asphalt. The water has since receded, but it will take some time to repair the damage and for the ecosystem to rebound.
In late 2015/early 2016 unusually large rainfall in the Upper Mississippi River Valley led to significant flooding in Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. USGS crews responded to the flooding by collecting streamflow and water quality information and providing it to emergency responders.
