September 10, 2026 — Kīlauea summit eruption monitoring overfligh
Detailed Description
Around 12:45 p.m. HST on September 10, 2026, USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory staff documented activity at the eruptive vent complex in Halema‘uma‘u during a monitoring overflight of Kīlauea summit. This image was taken looking to the east down the outflow channel from the north vent, where overflows had been occurring since September 7, 2026, in the run-up to episode 55. No moving lava was visible, suggesting that this was not an active lava tube but there was residual incandescence from a recent overflow. USGS photo by K. Lynn.
