Storm Tide Sensor at Shell Beach for Hurricane Sally
Detailed Description
USGS storm tide sensor installed at Shell Beach in Louisiana in advance of Hurricane Sally. The cross in the background and a granite plaque listing the names of 163 individuals were erected in 2006 as a tribute to the lives lost in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Each year on August 29, the anniversary of the storm, a remembrance ceremony is held at the memorial.
