USGS: Hurricane Sally poses erosion threat to some Gulf Coast beaches

Detailed Description

This map illustrates the USGS Coastal Change Hazard Portal's prediction of September 15, 2020 for Hurricane Sally's potential erosion effects on beaches from Louisiana through the western Florida Panhandle. The innermost strip shows where erosion is very likely to occur at the base of the dunes. The middle strip shows where the dunes are very likely to be overwashed by storm waves. The outer strip shows where the dunes are very likely to be inundated, with flooding behind them. "Very likely" is defined as a 90% or better chance of occurring. The predictions are updated frequently. The latest one is always available at https://marine.usgs.gov/coastalchangehazardsportal/
