USGS Hydrologist Collects Groundwater Sample at Idaho National Laboratory

2021 (approx.)

Detailed Description

In this photo USGS hydrologist Allison Trcka collects a groundwater sample at the Idaho National Laboratory in November 2021. Since 1949, the USGS has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to better understand the movement of water through the eastern Snake River Plain aquifer in Idaho and the effects of historical waste disposal practices at the Idaho National Laboratory. USGS Idaho Water Science Center’s Idaho National Laboratory Project Office monitors groundwater and surface-water quality, and samples are analyzed for selected common ions, trace elements, nutrients, radiochemical constituents, and organic compounds. You can learn more in a recent report about the historical development of USGS hydrologic monitoring and studies at the Idaho National Lab.
