USGS Scientists install a post for water sensor pre-Helene

Rapid deployment sensors for a hurricane must be securely anchored to maintain the position of the instrument and to keep the instrument from becoming debris during a storm. If a solid structure isn't available (like a pier piling), USGS Scientists can install a long post into the beach onto which they securely mount the instruments.
