Vertical fixed plate screen

USGS researchers at the Montana Fishery Research Unit are conducting a series of studies assessing prevention of losses of trout into agricultural irrigation diversion canals in the Bitterroot River drainage in collaboration with the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks. Fish losses were significant before installation of vertical fixed-plate screens but were largely eliminated after installation of the screens. We were thereby able to ensure that farmers and ranchers had continued access to the water they needed while also maintaining abundant recreational fish populations.
