Walnut Canyon - the distinct lithologies of the canyon
Detailed Description
This view across the canyon shows the distinct lithologies of the canyon. The cross-bedded Coconino Sandstone is at the base of the canyon. Pinyons and junipers thrive on the shale slopes of the Toroweap Formation. The cliff dwellings are built under a prominent rock overhang in the lower Kaibab Limestone (NPS, 2008).
