Wind Cave National Park
Detailed Description
Wind Cave has very few cave travertine deposits (such as stalactite, stalagmites, and columns) visible along tour routes. However, the Mississippian limestone host rock for the cavern has many small fractures filled mostly with calcite and other minerals that add color and textures to the limestone walls. These fracture filling deposits give rise to the "box works" found throughout the cavern (Feldmann, 1997; NPS, 2009).
