Xabatin Feather Dancers Bless the Clear Lake Agreement Signing
Detailed Description
The b-roll clip provided courtesy of the California Natural Resources Agency opens close in on a line of Pomo dancers moving across a grassy field in bright sun. The men dance in feather skirts, white pants, and headdresses of black and white feathers. The women wear long blue dresses, and some wear necklaces and feathered headpieces. Spectators and display boards stand behind the line of dancers.
About halfway through, the video cuts to a wider view of the dance ground: a circle of bare earth ringed by grass, shaded by a large tree, with Clear Lake and the hills beyond under a clear blue sky. The men dance in the center of the circle, stepping and turning, while the women in blue sway together along its edge. Dust rises from the ground as they move.
The final shots move in closer from near ground level. The men circle and stamp, their feather skirts fanning out, while the women dance behind them. Long afternoon shadows stretch across the grass in the foreground.
