The virtual Trail Data Aggregation Seminar, brought together 63 participants, including representatives from 14 states, four federal agencies, and organizations like OpenStreetMap and American Trails. The event provided a platform for states to share successes and challenges in aggregating trail data, with the goal of encouraging state-wide aggregation.
Joe O’Brien from Colorado’s COTREX program headlined the seminar, highlighting Colorado’s collaborative efforts in trail data aggregation. Additional presentations covered key topics such as State aggregation experiences, the National Digital Trails Project, the Federal Trail GIS Schema, OpenStreetMap, the MAPLand Act, Protected Areas Database of the US, and USGS tools like the Trail Data Portal and the trail planning application (TRAILS).
Plans are underway to make this an annual event to continue fostering collaboration and innovation in trail data aggregation. Let us know if you are interested in attending the next seminar by emailing us at trails@usgs.gov .
