The Oregon spotted frog (OSF) is listed as federally threatened and predation by non-native species is thought to be one of the main conservation threats to this species.

Potential predators include introduced fish and the invasive American bullfrog, both of which are expanding into OSF habitats. However, little data exists on interactions between OSF and these potential predators and prior observations have relied on visual identification of prey in diet.  USGS ecologists and geneticists are partnering with the USFWS Klamath Falls Office on a new study using DNA barcoding techniques to assess frequency and patterns of predation on Oregon spotted frog.
