Some volunteers have already been working in these states, so we need help reviewing and confirming green points.  There are also many more points that have yet to be collected.

Tips and tricks for this challenge:  

Local Government: Incorporated vs. Unincorporated 

1. Georgia’s local government consists of cities, towns, consolidated city-counties, and consolidated cities. 
2. South Carolina’s local government consists of cities and towns. 
3. See the Cities vs. Towns vs. Villages article in our September 2019 newsletter for more information on the different types of governing bodies. 

Possible Sources 

1. The Municipal Association of South Carolina contains a directory of local governments in South Carolina with corresponding city websites. 
2. The Georgia Municipal Association contains a similar list of local governments in Georgia. 
3. Wikipedia also contains lists of communities for Georgia and South Carolina. 
4. See the American FactFinder Tutorial article in our November 2019 newsletter for tips on using American FactFinder to identify local governing entities.   
5. Remember to find an authoritative source (e.g., the city or village’s website) for each feature before adding it to the web editor.

Proper Point Placement 

1. Our November 2018 newsletter includes an article on aerial interpretation for city/town hall structures. This article walks you through the process of using aerial imagery to find the correct building on which to place a point. 
2. While researching city/town halls in these states you may encounter some fascinating architecture.  Savannah, Georgia is especially well known for its historic architecture.  If you’re interested in learning more about these architecture types, check out our series on American Architecture in the July 2018, September 2018, and November 2018 newsletters.   

Interested in collecting city/town halls elsewhere? 

Remember that we’re collecting city/town halls nationally, so feel free to research these features throughout the entire U.S.  Other priority states include (in order of priority): LA, MS, AL, FL, ME, VT, and NH.  However, note that only city/town halls for GA and SC will count towards this challenge.
