Breached perched pond on rootless shield

The perched pond atop the rootless shield at 2150 feet--the middle shield in February 15 photo--breached on February 18. Since then, lava has been spilling out of the pond through the breach, forming an `a`a flow now 2 kilometers long. Aerial view showing the dark `a`a down slope from the broken side of the pond.

Aerial view looking across the long axis of the pond through the breach. The active perched pond is mostly crusted, but faint incandescence and lineations in crust show that lava is flowing away from observer.
