This composite image combines a thermal image with a normal photograph, and shows the recent breakouts on the pali and coastal plain in Royal Gardens subdivision. The two large vegetated areas in this view are some of the only remaining portions of Royal Gardens not covered by lava. The bright white and yellow areas show the breakouts active during today's overflight. The large central breakout had an impressive channelized ‘a‘ā flow reaching the base of the pali.
