The Big Island of Hawai‘i is made up of five volcanoes, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Hualālai, Mauna Loa, and Kīlauea.

Mauna Kea means "White Mountain" in Hawaiian and is Hawai‘i's tallest volcano. It is considered a dormant volcano, but is likely to erupt again. At least 7 separate vents erupted between 6,000 and 4,000 years ago.
