Video Assistance on Using The National Map Products and Services
Users of The National Map can get more assistance on using products and services with the release of new online, instructional videos.
The USGS National Geospatial Program has developed a robust suite of geospatial products and services called The National Map (TNM). The publicly available TNM is a collaborative effort managed by the USGS in partnership with other federal, state, and local geospatial agencies to improve and deliver topographic information for the nation.
Understanding the complexity and richness of TNM tools and applications is now made easier with a publicly available series of web-based lessons. These lessons provide structured training to geospatial data users and scientists from federal agencies, state and local governments, Native American tribes, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions and private industry.
Each narrated video is between 5 and 15 minutes in length, depending on the content. The course content is grouped into categories focusing on specific elements of data, themes, products, or use of data. The categories include:
- An introduction to The National Map (TNM) and the viewer interface
- TNM download and services
- Mobile TNM, US Topo and the Historical Topographic Map Collection
- Earth Explorer and Hazards Data Distribution System
- US Topo, Historical Topographic Map collection, and Topo TNM style template
- National Hydrography Dataset (NHD)
- 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) topics
- Accessing and using 3DEP data
- US Interagency Elevation Inventory and SeaSketch
- Emergency Operations Collection Management Tool

The NHD user community may be interested in new NHD topic videos: Introduction to NHD, NHDPlus HR, the Watershed Boundary Dataset, Markup Application, and Training for the Markup Reviewer.
Users of 3DEP Lidar data may be particularly interested in new videos that provide information on using the data in various software packages including Intro to LAS Files in ArcGIS Pro, Importing Data into Global Mapper and Importing Data into LP360.
