USGS HVO Press Release — Earthquake Felt Island-Wide
At 2:56 PM local time, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory seismographic network recorded a moderate earthquake from the Ka‘ū district of the Island of Hawai‘i.
The earthquake was centered approximately 4 miles north of Pāhala at a depth of about 7 miles. Preliminary calculations indicate that the magnitude of this earthquake was about 5.5. Hawai‘i County Civil Defense has received reports of damage in the Pāhala area. More than 10 aftershocks were located within the first hour after the main shock.
