Kīlauea Volcano continues to erupt from the Kupaianaha vent on the East Rift Zone. The episode 49 fissure that opened between Pu`u `O`o and Kupaianaha on November 8 remains inactive. The volume of lava moving down the Waha`ula lava tube from Kupaianaha has waxed and waned since the end of the fissure eruption and is currently about 50% of what it was before episode 49 began. Volcanic tremor, indicative of underground magma movement, continues at moderate-to-low levels beneath the upper East Rift Zone.
The Waha`ula tube is feeding a 1-km-long, fluid pahoehoe flow that issued from a break in the tube at about the 1,900-foot-level (see stars on lava flow map). This flow is advancing downslope along the course of the tube. An active lava pond at the bottom of the Pu`u `O`o Crater has been sighted intermittently for the last two weeks.
