Jennifer Lacey
Ms. Jennifer Lacey is the Associate Director for Core Science Systems (CSS) Mission Area at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Ms. Lacey provides leadership for the science planning and direction of the mission area. She also leads the development, management, and coordination of program activities which include the National Geospatial Program (NGP), the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP), the Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) Program, the National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP), and the National Land Imaging Program.
Ms. Lacey has been with the USGS since 1999. In 2003, she became the project manager of the NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. During her tenure at EROS and CSS, she has held other senior positions, including Chief Scientist for remote sensing and Branch Chief of the Observing Systems Branch. As Branch Chief, she was responsible for operations of the Landsat satellites, development of the ground system for future missions, international partnerships for satellite imagery, calibration and validation of satellite data, and the National Land Imaging Requirements effort. Ms. Lacey has also detailed to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), working at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center on the GOES-R mission. In 2020, Ms. Lacey joined the Midcontinent Region as the Deputy Regional Director for science, and subsequently was selected as the Regional Director.
Ms. Lacey is a graduate of the University of South Dakota, where she earned both her Bachelor and Master of Science in Mathematics.
