Jill Rolland, Sc.D.
Dr. Jill Rolland is the Regional Director for the Northwest – Pacific Islands Region (DOI Regions 9 and 12) at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Dr. Rolland provides leadership for the activities at seven science centers and approximately 800 employees that conduct a wide array of impartial, multi- and interdisciplinary research and monitoring on natural-resource issues in the states of Hawai’i, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Western Montana and the United States Pacific Territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Marianas.
Dr. Rolland started her federal career working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for ten years. She then joined the USGS as a Research Biologist for nine years. Prior to becoming the Regional Director in 2021, Dr. Rolland was the Associate Regional Director of the Northwest-Pacific Islands Region, and the Director of the Western Fisheries Research Center. Dr. Rolland also served a detail working on a special project evaluating a program merger for the Deputy Assistant Administrator of NOAA’s National Marine Fisheries Service.
Dr. Rolland is a graduate of the University of Bergan, Norway, where she earned both Doctor of Science and Master of Science in Fish Health. She has her Bachelor of Science in Fisheries from the University of Washington.
