HVO monitoring network outage
On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, planned removal of network hardware from the former USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) building in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park resulted in an unexpected monitoring data outage. HVO is working to rectify the problem as soon as possible, and staff continue tracking several unaffected data streams to maintain watch over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa volcanoes.
The outage is affecting monitoring data transmitted via HVO's radio telemetry network. Monitoring data transmitted via the Island of Hawai‘i's cellular network are still being collected and relayed to the web as normal, and these data show no significant changes at any of the island's volcanoes as of 2:00 p.m. HST on January 24.
For more information about the outage, refer to the HVO Information Statement issued in the aftermoon of January 24.
During the outage, HVO will continue to report on volcanic activity through official notifications distributed via the Volcano Notification Service.
