On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, upgrades to the USGS Web platform will cause access interruptions on the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory (HVO) website. HVO will maintain internal access to volcano monitoring data and will continue to report on volcanic activity.

All www.usgs.gov pages will be affected by these upgrades. Work to upgrade the USGS Web platform will begin at 11:00 a.m. HST (4:00 p.m. EST), with all webpages to become unavailable by 1:00 p.m. HST (6:00 p.m. EST).  The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website is expected to be available about 5 p.m. HST (10 p.m. EST) Wednesday evening. Search functionality may take another 24 hours to complete.

New USGS publications and all API based content will begin being populated late in the day January 18th. The work for this update is expected to be completed by Friday, January 19th.

The HVO public website interruption will not affect internal HVO volcano monitoring data. HVO will maintain internal access to volcano monitoring data and will continue to report on volcanic activity through official notifications distributed via the Volcano Notification Service.
