Data Releases

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Movement Data for Migrating Geese Over the Northeast Pacific Ocean, 2018-2021 Movement Data for Migrating Geese Over the Northeast Pacific Ocean, 2018-2021

This dataset consists of one table with a record (row) for each goose location and columns containing location information and covariates. The dataset was used in an analysis of altitude selection and flight propensity in an accompanying paper (Weiser et al. 2024) and is being provided here to allow replication of that analysis. Goose locations (latitude, longitude, and altitude) were...

DNA sequences used to analyze evolutionary rates of genes in bats DNA sequences used to analyze evolutionary rates of genes in bats

The dataset consists of sets of orthologous gene sequences obtained from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov) and from Cornman and Cryan (2022). Sequences derive from twelve bat species that are representative of bat diversity and for which high-quality gene models have been annotated. Each gene set was codon aligned and subsequently trimmed as...

Target-Chemical Concentrations for Assessment of Mixed-Organic/Inorganic Chemical and Biological Exposures in Private-Well Tapwater at Campbell, Wisconsin, 2021 Target-Chemical Concentrations for Assessment of Mixed-Organic/Inorganic Chemical and Biological Exposures in Private-Well Tapwater at Campbell, Wisconsin, 2021

Tapwater samples were obtained from groundwater sources on French Island, in the town of Campbell, Wisconsin. Samples from three locations were collected multiple times over a period of three days to assess temporal variations in water quality. Samples from an additional eight locations, were collected one time, spatially distributed around Campbell. Due to privacy concerns, the exact...

Video acquired from an Uncrewed Aerial System, UAS, and hydroacoustic measurements of flow velocity obtained along the North Santiam River, Oregon, in July 2022 Video acquired from an Uncrewed Aerial System, UAS, and hydroacoustic measurements of flow velocity obtained along the North Santiam River, Oregon, in July 2022

A reach of the North Santiam River, Oregon, was used as a case study in an ongoing effort to develop and test image velocimetry algorithms for estimating surface flow velocities in river channels from remotely sensed data. Video was acquired from an unoccupied aircraft system, UAS, and used as input to the image velocimetry algorithms. Direct measurements of flow velocity were obtained...

Geospatial representations of salinity monitoring site and bay and estuary group boundaries in the Gulf of Mexico Geospatial representations of salinity monitoring site and bay and estuary group boundaries in the Gulf of Mexico

The polygon datasets were created to assist in visualizing the results of salinity modeling in Gulf of Mexico estuaries and bays. Statistical algorithms (Asquith and others, 2023) were developed to predict daily salinities for 91 salinity monitoring sites (Rodgers and Swarzenski, 2019) operated by 7 agencies in near coastal United States waters of the Gulf of Mexico. These monitoring...

Microsatellite genotypes of Bombus occidentalis specimens (including Bombus mckayi) from 1960 to 2020 Microsatellite genotypes of Bombus occidentalis specimens (including Bombus mckayi) from 1960 to 2020

This dataset consists of the microsatellite genotypes, collection data, and ownership data for 1461 specimens of Bombus occidentalis. The dataset includes both recognized subspecies, Bombus occidentalis occidentalis and Bombus occidentals mckayi. The subspecies have since been elevated to species status and are currently described as Bombus occidentalis and Bombus mckayi. The specimens...
