The Golden Trout Wilderness occupies 457 square miles in the southern Sierra Nevada range of California, south of Sequoia National Park. The study area includes at least a part of the Kern Peak, Olancha, Mineral King, Hockett Peak, Camp Nelson, and Manache Mountain 15-minute quadrangle maps. It is contained totally within lands belonging to the Inyo and Sequoia National Forests.

The Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness covers almost 2,000 mi2 in east-central Idaho and western Montana (fig. 1). The wilderness lies across the Bitterroot Range, which forms the boundary between Idaho and Montana, and includes large portions of the drainages of the Selway, Lochsa, and Bitterroot Rivers.
