Application of ERTS technology in development programs for the Liptako-Gourma Authority countries (Mali, Niger and Upper Volta)

The Geological Education Project was begun in 1958 under a Project Agreement between the United States Operations Mission (USOM) and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Brazil signed June 30, 1958. It called for assistance in developing newly established geology schools under a special commission of the Ministry, the Campaign for the Education of Geologists (CAGE). The agreement called for USOM to furnish two geological professors to each of four schools for a period of 6 years, for furnishing scientific materials and equipment unavailable in Brazil, and providing participant training grants for promising junior faculty members.

U. S. professors were to teach undergraduates in the classroom, laboratory, and field and at the same time to train junior faculty members, assigned as assistants, in teaching methods and in specialties in the various fields of geology.
