Earthquakes, July-August 1993
Two major earthquake (7.0≤M<8.0) and one great earthquake (M≥8.0) occurred during this reporting period. The major shocks were a magnitude 7.6 earthquake off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan, on July 2, and a magntidue 7.0 quake off the coast of South Island, New Zealand, on August 10. A magntiude 8.2 earthquake struck an area south of the Mariana Islands on August 8. No significant earthquakes occurred in the United States during the months of July and August.
