Ground-water use by public-supply systems in Tennessee in 1985

Public-supply groundwater withdrawal in Tennessee in 1985 totaled about 243 million gal/day, or about 54% of the total groundwater used. Most of the withdrawals were from the Tertiary Memphis Sand in Shelby County (Memphis), West Tennessee (141 million gal/day). Of the 182 public-supply systems, 32 withdrew 1 million gal/day or more and accounted for 83% of the groundwater withdrawn by public-supply systems in Tennessee. (USGS)
