Low-Flow Characteristics of Kentucky Streams, 1984

INTRODUCTION

The U. S. Geologlcal Survey has been gathering low-flow data on streams throughout Kentucky for many years. This report presents low-flow characteristics at gaged and ungaged sites where the flow is not significantly regulated. Data on avai1able streamflow during low-flow periods are used for the design of plants that dispose of waste using di1ution procedures, to estimate avai1able industrial and municipal water supplies, to estimate irrigation supplies, and in the design of recreational faci1ities.

This preliminary report presents low-flow data at 84 continuous-record sites and the 7-day 2-year and 7-day 10-year flow only at 203 partial-record sites. The station identifier, 7-day 10-year dlscharge in cubic feet per second (ft3/s), and the drainage area in square mi1es (mi2 ) are shown on the map. Other data are shown in tabular form. Low-flow characteristics previously published by Swisshelm (1974) and Sullavan (1980) have been combined and included in this report for reference purposes.
