Lower Ipswich River basin

January 1, 1962

The lower Ipswich River basin is that part of the Ipswich River drainage basin below the Geological Survey stream-gaging station at South Middleton in northeastern Massachusetts (fig. 1). It includes about 110 square miles between the gaging station at South Middleton and the Atlantic Ocean.

This report presents basic data collected as part of an investigation of the geology and ground-water resources of the lower Ipswich River basin, Massachusetts by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Public Works. The data have been prepared for release in order to make available to the public basic ground-water data that will be useful in the planning of water-resources development.

An earlier Basic-Data Report (Baker and Sammel, 1961) presents data pertaining to ground-water conditions in the upper part of the Ipswich River basin (the Wilmington-Reading area).
