Physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the Charlotte Harbor basin and estuarine system in southwestern Florida; a summary of the 1982-89 U.S. Geological Survey Charlotte Harbor assessment and other studies
This report summarizes a 7-year study from 1982-89 of the Charlotte Harbor estuary and its basin. Although Charlotte Harbor estuary is relatively undisturbed, much of its basin is being subjected to increased environmental stress by population growth and development within its basin. Major potential effects of development to the estuary are decreased or altered timing of freshwater inflow and increased inputs of contaminants.
