In 1973 the U.S. Geological Survey contracted for 50 symmetric Schlumberger soundings from Geoterrex Ltd. to be run in the Las Cruces, New Mexico area to aid in hydrologic studies. During 1974 and 1975 the U.S. Geological Survey added 100 additional symmetric Schlumberger soundings to increase the areal coverage of the 1973 survey. Measurements made by Geoterrex are so labeled on the sounding curve graphs. Soundings made by the U.S. Geological Survey are denoted by a letter and a number. Figure 1 shows the index map for the location, number, and azimuth of the sounding station. The maximum electrode spacing ranged from AB/2 = 25 m (82 ft) to AB/2 - 4,877 m (16,000 ft). All the sounding curves were automatically processed and interpreted as shown in the graphs given in the appendix.
