Seismic refraction records from a survey in the Gulf of Alaska

January 1, 1975

In September, 1974, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a seismic refraction survey between Icy Bay and Kayak Island in the Gulf of Alaska to measure the seismic velocity and thickness of the sedimentary section. The purpose of this report is to make the original field records publicly available. Five lines totaling approximately 500 kilometres (including reversal) were shot. Approximate locations of the five lines (labeled A, C, D, E, and H) are plotted on figure 1. There was a total of 238 dynamite and 45 airgun shots as shown in table 1 which lists individual charge size, fuse length, firing time, shot depth, water depth, gain settings, filter settings, and sonobuoy location for each of the shot points.
